[SALT LAKE CITY, UT APRIL 11, 2025] \u2014 <\/span>Pioneer Theatre Company<\/b>, Utah\u2019s premier professional theatre company in residence at the University of Utah, presents the Utah premiere of <\/span>Waitress<\/i><\/b> from <\/span>May 2-17, 2025<\/b>. Nominated for four Tony Awards, the musical features a book by <\/span>Jessie Nelson<\/b> and music and lyrics by Grammy-winning artist <\/span>Sara Bareilles<\/b>. It is based upon the motion picture of the same name written by Adrienne Shelly<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Based on the 2007 Sundance film, Waitress is the story of Jenna, a pie chef and waitress at a small-town Southern diner who\u2019s stuck in a loveless marriage. When Jenna discovers she is pregnant, a local pie-baking contest with a cash prize becomes Jenna and her baby\u2019s chance for a better life. But, as is often the case, fate has a few extra ingredients that complicate Jenna\u2019s recipe for a new life.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>

Melinda Pfundstein<\/b>, in her PTC debut, directs <\/span>Waitress<\/span><\/i>. Pfundstein has been a member of the creative company at Utah Shakespeare Festival for over 25 years, where she recently directed <\/span>Silent Sky<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>The<\/span><\/i> Book of Will<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>All\u2019s Well That Ends Well<\/span><\/i>, and many others. She has also directed <\/span>The Tempest<\/span><\/i> for the University of Utah.<\/span><\/p>

<\/b>During the run of <\/span>Waitress<\/span><\/i>, Pioneer Theatre Company will present <\/span>Womanhood<\/i><\/b>\u2014featuring works from <\/span>Anna Hansen, Annalee Wood, Caro Nilsson, Catherine Widner, Desarae Lee, Esther Mathieu, Haylee Canonico, Jan Harris Smith, Leia Bell, and Nik Kleintz<\/b>. The exhibit will be on display in the <\/span>Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre Loge Gallery<\/b> and individual pieces will be available for purchase through the PTC Box Office.<\/span><\/p>
