Pioneer Theatre Company presents the Utah premiere of Waitress<\/em>\u00a0<\/i><\/strong>from May 2-17, 2025. <\/strong>Nominated for four Tony Awards, the musical features a book by Jessie Nelson <\/b>and music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winner Sara Bareilles<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

Based on the 2007 Sundance film,\u00a0Waitress<\/i> is the story of Jenna, a pie chef and waitress at a small-town Southern diner who\u2019s stuck in a loveless marriage. When Jenna discovers she is pregnant, a local pie-baking contest with a cash prize becomes Jenna and her baby\u2019s chance for a better life. But, as is often the case, fate has a few extra ingredients that complicate Jenna\u2019s recipe for a new life.\u00a0<\/p>

Leading the cast is PTC newcomer Claire Saunders*<\/strong> (Broadway’s Sweeney Todd<\/em>) as Jenna. She is joined by PTC alumni Ben Jacoby*<\/strong> (Broadway’s Beautiful: The Carole King Musical<\/em>, PTC’s Bonnie & Clyde<\/em>) as Dr. Pomatter; William Parry*<\/strong> (an original cast member of 11 Broadway productions\u2014including Sunday in the Park with George<\/em>, PTC’s Alabama Story<\/em>, Newsies<\/em>) as Joe; Daniel Plimpton*<\/strong> (PTC’s Something Rotten<\/em>, Cagney<\/em>) as Ogie; Lexi Rabadi*<\/strong> (Broadway’s Sweeney Todd<\/em>, PTC’s Something Rotten<\/em>) as Dawn; Brent Thiessen*\u00a0<\/strong>(PTC’s Jersey Boys<\/em>, Putting It Together<\/em>) as Earl; and ensemble members Kyle Brand*<\/strong> (PTC’s Oliver!<\/em>) and Marjorie Failoni* <\/strong>(Broadway’s Escape to Margaritaville<\/em>, PTC’s Something Rotten<\/em>). Making their PTC debuts are Aaron Arnell Harrington*<\/strong> (Off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors<\/em>) as Cal; Candice Marie Woods*<\/strong> (Broadway’s Hairspray<\/em>, Catch Me If You Can<\/em>) as Becky; and ensemble member Vincent Ortega*<\/strong> (Broadway’s Mamma Mia!<\/em>, In the Heights<\/em>).<\/p>

<\/b>Rounding out the company are ensemble members Jordan Cruz<\/strong> (PTC’s Jersey Boys<\/em>, The Rocky Horror Show<\/em>); Zeth Dixon<\/strong>; Luke Foti<\/strong>; Kamaluonalani Matthias<\/strong>; and Courtney McMullin<\/strong>. Iris Fernelius<\/strong>, Hailey Harding<\/strong>, and Hazel Wilde Pearce <\/strong>alternate in the role of Lulu.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Creative Team<\/strong><\/h3>

Melinda Pfundstein,\u00a0<\/b>in her PTC debut, directs Waitress<\/em>. Pfundstein has been a member of the creative company at Utah Shakespeare Festival for over 25 years, where she recently directed Silent Sky<\/em>, The<\/em> Book of Will<\/em>, All’s Well That Ends Well<\/em>, and many others. She has also directed The Tempest<\/em> for the University of Utah.<\/p>
